Although the two versions of Macbeth, the original and the modern, equally depict the play of Macbeth, they have their similarities and differences. A huge similarity noted between the two were the personalities of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. They both portray her as a woman with serious mental and guilt issues. Their actions end up to the destruction of their conscience and mind. A huge difference that really takes the two films apart is the whole concept of "power". The original film brings to life the theme of corruption in government. It makes the theme powerful as you see a man commit evil deeds to become king. On the other side of the spectrum, the modern film is weak in this aspect because it is simply about a drug deal. The concept of drug dealing is very weak compared to talking about a more vigorous aspect such as kingship. Overall I preferred the first film due to the lack of effectiveness in the overall plot.

The play and the film have many differences, but one difference between them is that in the play they never mention that Lady Macbeth had a son and in the movie they show her crying at his tomb stone. Another difference bettween them is that in the play everyone is fighting for the throne, but in the film they're fighting over drugs.
There are also many similarities between them, but one similarity both the film and the play have is that Lady Macbeth and her son get murder by some evil men. Another is that even in the film Shakespeares old english is spoken and most of the lines from the play were still used in the movie only in a more modern scene to make it more interesting.
I prefer the film because it was full of action, weapons and blood and it all caught my attention. It was more modern so it was easier to understand and it made it more interesting and not so boring like the film.
There were various differences and similarities between both the 1979 and the 2006 version of Macbeth. In similarities both movies had the same main characters and no differences between the deaths. They also both used the same diologue and had the same plot as to Macbeth killing Duncan and going mad due to paranoia and guilt.Another similarity they had was that they were both violent and Macbeth although was in gunfight still died by sword or dagger rather.
The differences between the two were recognizable from the begining. The 2006 version had actual scenery. It also differentiated in weaponry using guns instead of swords. Duncan who is a king in the 1979 version is the leader of a crime syndicate dealing drugs in the 2006 version. The witches who foretold the future are more sexual and appear to be teenagers in the newer version. Lady Macbeth in the older version wants Banquo dead. The 2006 version Macbeth is the one who wants Banquo dead and needs no persuading in doing so.

Jesus Lizarraga p3 LA4

The similarities that both versions was that both had a lot of violence and anger in them. They both took place in dark areas and in both movies it seemed like no one could trust nobody.

The differences were that i understood the more modern version i didnt really get the old version and it was also more shakespear like .In the modern version they used weapons like guns gernades more new weapons and in the old version they use swords and stuff like that.
The movie was different front the play because they were set in different times, which made them both differ. The wars, in the movie there were staggers and guns and tons of violence, but in the play you are told by other characters when they have arrived and when they were fighting (less graphical).

Both the movie and the play were very detailed when they gave out information. For instance, in the movie in the final war you can see how they all prepare for the battle, and in the play when lady Mac Beth is going mad.

I personally believe that the play had more spoken detail and the movie had more visual detail. they were both very interesting, too bad we were unable to watch all of the movie.

Sam Worthington Trivia Game

Hi everyone,

This is not really related to Macbeth, but here's some fun trivia: what new movie is Sam Worthington the star of? (Worthington is the actor who plays Macbeth in the newer film version we watched.)

Any guesses?

macbeth

The difference between both movies were that the first one was a little boring than the second.
well to me because the first movie had a simple setting and was just like a play
on stage it was really hard to understand what they
were talking about and what was going on. when in the second
movie i understood more of what was going on because it was more
like movies today and had a lot of violence. they used guns instead of
guns to kill each other and they used drugs.

the similarities were that there was a lot of killings and anger.both
movies did not show when lady Macbeth dies
and both of the movies have really dark settings.

i didn't like the first movie because it was boring and i was lost
and did not understand what
was going on and who was who. The second movie was
more interesting and more exciting to watch.

There were both similarities and differences between the old and modern film versions of Macbeth. One similarity between both films is that the language is still the same, it's the same words that were written by Shakespeare. Another similarity that I saw was that the plot and the setting were still the same in both. The setting was still a dark, gloomy place and the plot was still for Macbeth to become king and kill anyone in the process.

There were many differences that appeared in both versions of Macbeth. One difference was that in the modern version Lady Macbeth would take drugs and she was addicted to it. Another difference is that Macbeth is saying that he should kill Banquo instead of Lady Macbeth telling him that he has to go do that, he was taking charge and making his own decisions. Lastly, in the old version of Macbeth you don't see much action and in the new one you see a lot of the fighting more especially in the final scene.

The difference in both version was that the first one we saw didnt really have that much action. They used swords and dressed like how they used to drees back then. In the more modern version i seen more violence more blood was shed. Also they used guns and dresseds more like how they dress now.

The comparisons were that both version had a lot of violence a lot of killing and in both movies i seen blood. Both movies had a lot of anger and i never seen lady Macbeth die. Also they both took place in dark areas like a scary theme.

I didnt really like the first movie we saw it was boring and i was lost most of the time. The second i understood more but i didnt really see the whole movie so i kind of didnt get it.

Well the similarities in the films of both Macbeth was that they both had a lot of blood anger and violence. Also both of the settings of these films were very dark and sinister also in a way it was a tad bit scary. Oh and also we never saw Lady Macbeth die but it's okay I guess.

But the differences between the two films was that the first film we saw it was more Shakespearean and more kind of old school and the second version we saw was more modern and a bit more bloody and gory. That's what I saw in these two films.

But in the end I didn't like any of the films because the first one bored me a bit and I got kind of lost. But in the second film I understood it more but I didn't like the scene were the little kid got shot.

Differences and similarities

Macbeth had similarities, as well as differences. The similarities between the two versions of Macbeth were that they had the same plots, as well as the same language.

The differenes between the two versions of Macbeth are many. First, there was drug dealing in the newer version, instead of fighting for the kingdom they fight for the drugs. There was also a dead son, that Lady Macbeth and Macbeth had in the new version that they didn't have in the old version. Also, in the new version, Macbeth has the iniciative to kill Banquo instead of Lady Macbeth having to encorage Macbeth to kill him. Last, Banquo's spirit appears at the dinner, and you could actually see him, not like the older verion that you couldn't see Banquo's spirit. Banquo's spirit tries to kill Macbeth and choke him.

Agustin Lozoya LA4

The two versions of Macbeth had some similarities and some differences. One of the similarities is that they both shared the same basic plot. Another similarity they both share is that in both versions a war was fought and a traitor was killed. However, they also both had many differences. For example the scenery in the play whas really boring, dull, and simple; The one in the movie was more flashy and modern. Another difference is that the witches in the movie were hot as teenagers as in contrary to the play where they were old ugly lady's. Another big difference is that the movie revolved around drugs as opposed to the play. I prefer the modern move much better, it kept me entertained and its just way better in my opinion. The play was far to boring I couldn't stay awake.

Kiara Ruiz La4

Both versions of Macbeth shared similarities. They were both similar because the story still happened the same. The events that happened to the characters were the same in both versions. For example Lady Macbeth at the end was crazy and ended killing herself.

The differance between both versions of Macbeth is that the first version was very original. The second one was modern and the characters are younger than in the first version. The first version was about how Macbeth wanted to be King while in the second one he wanted to be the Mob leader.

the difference between both films are how one revolves around the present and the other how it played in the distant past.On the second movie interpretative trust amongst drug lords cocaine attics. while, the the first film showed trust amongst noblemen.

some of the similarity were how they both fought a war against a rival and executed a traitor.

Sendy Munguia LA4

In both of the films the difference was the characters on the way they looked and acted.
In the second film the three witches are naughty teens where in the first film they were ugly drooling witches. In the second film the entire cast seems to be younger while in the first film they were older.

One similarity they have is that it’s about Macbeth.

However I liked the first film of Macbeth. Even though it was boring and had an empty black stage, but you focus on the performances and that’s a good thing. The actors sure knew how to act. Plus they didn’t kill the famous Shakespearean dialogue.
