There were both similarities and differences between the old and modern film versions of Macbeth. One similarity between both films is that the language is still the same, it's the same words that were written by Shakespeare. Another similarity that I saw was that the plot and the setting were still the same in both. The setting was still a dark, gloomy place and the plot was still for Macbeth to become king and kill anyone in the process.
There were many differences that appeared in both versions of Macbeth. One difference was that in the modern version Lady Macbeth would take drugs and she was addicted to it. Another difference is that Macbeth is saying that he should kill Banquo instead of Lady Macbeth telling him that he has to go do that, he was taking charge and making his own decisions. Lastly, in the old version of Macbeth you don't see much action and in the new one you see a lot of the fighting more especially in the final scene.

There was no scenery in the first one, therefore we can't determine whether the first one was really that gloomy. But I'm sure they would have tried to make it the way you said it to be.
ReplyDeleteYeah i understand what you mean by the setting in the play. Although there wasn't a scenery it was still gloomy because the area in which they acted out the play was very dark and depressing therefor giving it a gloomy feel.
ReplyDeleteYeah i agree to what you said about the dark and gloomy setting. Because in both of the movies the setting was just dark, they did not show anything during the day time.
ReplyDeleteI agree because in the play version there was no scene, it was all dark and plain and in the newer version there was lots of blood, killing, weapons and drugs and I think that made it seem more interesting. It is true, Macbeth seemed to be in control in the modern film, he was the one that came up with the idea of killing Banquo instead of Lady Macbeth.
